* As modified, this player plays PAL as PAL and NTSC as NTSC, it does not have an internal converter to switch signals.  It must be either connected to an external Video Signal Standards Converter or to a Multistandard TV to view both PAL and NTSC properly.  VCR Friendly- means you can make great videotape copies (for your own use) of dvds with your vcr even if protected by Macrovision.
