The portable dvd player preferred by travelers the world over!
The DVD-LX8 features a 9-inch diagonal 16:9 high-resolution LCD screen that employs the
Mono Arm concept, with an adjustable arm that allows for increased options when choosing a
viewing angle. The DVD-LX8 also features built-in stereo speakers and a playback time of
up to 2.5 hours on its included rechargeable battery pack. The Panasonic DVD-LX8 portable
DVD player includes high-speed, 5-step Smooth Motion Scan, a feature that provides
crystal-clear forward and reverse scan, in 5 speeds. At the highest setting, the unit
scans at an incredible 100 times normal speed. The DVD-LX8 optimizes the viewing
experience by adding two key features -- Dialogue Enhancer and Cinema Mode. Dialogue
Enhancer boosts the center channel volume -- where most of the principal dialogue emanates
when playing a Dolby Digital 5.1 disc -- by 6dB. Cinema Mode improves the picture quality
by reducing glare, softening resolution and improving visibility of details in dark scenes
-- resulting in a more realistic, cinema-like image.
Multi-format capability is another key feature -- the DVD-LX8 is capable of playing
back DVD-Video, 2-channel DVD-Audio, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, video and audio CDs, MP3, WMA, and
CD-R/-RW discs. This model also supports HighMAT (High-Performance Media Access
Technology), a technology co-developed by Panasonic and Microsoft for arranging and using
personal music, video and photo collections on recordable discs, such as DVD and CD
recordable media.
Panasonic DVD-LX8 Key Features
54MHz 10-Bit Video Digital-to-Analog Converter
A D/A converter using 54MHz oversampling helps bring out the stunning beautiful picture
quality of DVD. By processing the DVD video signal at 4 times the original 13.5MHz rate,
this technology provides vivid and finely textured image reproduction. To provide a
magnificent picture, the recorded 8-bit DVD image data receives 10-bit processing for
faithful reproduction that extends to delicate signal details.
Cinema Mode
The Cinema Mode feature combines brightness control with picture noise canceling to give
you a better picture under certain viewing conditions. It lessens the glare typical of
direct-view TV screens. The result is luminance and color that is cinema-like and a
picture resolution that is gentler to the eyes. Also, this feature improves the visibility
of details in dark scenes by automatically adjusting the picture contrast. It even helps
to suppress color smearing as well.
S-Video Out
Provides a brilliantly clear, high-quality video link to other video equipment.
2-Channel DVD Audio Playback
DVD-Audio is nothing less than the new world standard for super-high fidelity sound.
You've never heard anything like it! On the outside, these discs look just like familiar
CDs. But DVD-Audio discs offer incredible storage capacity (approximately 7 times the
amount of information on a CD), and ultra-high performance stereo sound you won't find in
any other home audio technology. And the multiple channel stereo sound captures the
acoustics of the best concert halls. DVD-Audio represents a major step forward in audio
reproduction. Recorded music sounds live, with true definition, dynamics and room tone.
Sounds so clear and so real, you won't believe your ears!
Ultra-High
Performance Stereo Sound: DVD-Audio has a sampling frequency 4.3 times greater than
an audio CD, and has 256 times finer resolution. This translates to amazing 2-channel
stereo sound not even approachable by audio CDs. DVD-Audio offers up to 24-bit
quantization and 192kHz sampling (versus 16-bit and 44.1kHz for audio CD), which yields
extremely high resolution and extraordinary dynamic range up to 144dB (versus 96dB for
audio CD). Higher frequency response means outstanding clarity and realism in your
recordings -- giving you that uncanny feeling of "being there."
192kHz/24-bit Digital/Analog Converter
To allow for the high sampling rate and bit depth of DVD-Audio signals, this D/A
converter delivers faithful reproduction of 2-channel 192kHz/24-bit sound. The converter's
exceptional precision ensures superb sound quality during playback of DVD-Video discs and
CDs.
Built-in 2-Channel dts and Dolby Digital Decoders
When you play DVD movies encoded with DTS® or Dolby Digital® soundtracks, the
DVD-LX8's built-in decoders process the audio information without the need for an external
decoder.
Advanced Virtual Surround Sound
Even without an elaborate home theater system, you can still enjoy the thrilling sounds
of the movies thanks to Advanced Virtual Surround Sound. This Panasonic technology creates
the surround sound effect by simulating surround-channel sounds using only two front
speakers!*
* Works with Dolby Digital® 2, 5 and 5.1 channel discs only.
Headphone V.S.S. (Virtual Surround Sound)
When listening to a Dolby Digital-encoded disc through headphones, simply choose the
Headphone V.S.S. feature to enjoy the wide open effect of surround sound.
Dialogue Enhancer
Most of the movie dialogue recorded in surround sound formats (either Dolby Digital®,
DTS® or Dolby Pro Logic®) is heard through the center channel
speaker. At times, dialogue can be overwhelmed by particularly loud sounds emanating from
the other speakers in your surround sound system. The dialogue enhancer increases the
center channel volume (relative to other channels), making movie dialogue easier to hear
and understand.
Optical Digital Output for dts and Dolby Digital Decoders
The DVD-LX8 has outputs for optional DTS and Dolby Digital surround sound decoders,
providing six discrete channels of exhilarating digital audio that deliver the ultimate
sound experience.
DVD-RAM and DVD-R Playback
In addition to playing favorite DVD movie discs, these portable DVD players can play
back video recorded onto DVD-RAM discs. DVD-RAM is a recordable, rewritable DVD format,
sanctioned by the DVD Forum, developed to fuse A/V and PC applications. DVD-RAM allows
consumers to record high-quality MPEG-2 video onto DVD discs. The format offers fast data
transmission, random access and rewritability up to 100,000 times. This features makes
Panasonic PalmTheater DVD players the perfect companion to a Panasonic DVD-RAM Recorder.
HighMAT Compatible
High-Performance Media Access Technology (HighMAT), co-developed by Panasonic and
Microsoft, designed to significantly improve interoperability for digital media content
between PCs* and popular electronic devices such as CD players, car stereos and DVD
players. HighMAT is a digital-media standard that provides a dramatically improved method
of storing, arranging and playing back personal digital photo, music and video collections
on recordable discs such as CD-RW media.
Consumers worldwide use an increasing variety
of electronic devices to store, organize and access digital media. HighMAT delivers a
simple, standardized approach that allows consumers to:
Create and manage personal collections of digital music, video and photography on a PC.
Move digital media files (using recordable media such as CD-R and CD-RW) between the PC
and various playback devices such as CD and DVD players.
* Microsoft plans to support HighMAT in the final release of Windows
Media(TM) Player 9 Series and in future versions of Windows Movie Maker 2, the digital
video editing and publishing feature of Windows(R) XP.
Audio CD, CD-R and CD-RW Playback
These Panasonic portable DVD players can play CD-DA format audio CD-R and CD-RW. They
may not be able to play some CD-R or CD-RW due to the condition of the recording.
MP3 and WMA Playback
For contents recorded on CD-R/RW media from CDs for your personal use. Plays back MPEG
Layer 3 (.MP3) and Windows Media (.WMA) Internet audio formats. Playability may vary
depending on contents and discs.
JPEG Still Image Playback
Display a list of JPEG digital images as photos recorded onto a CD-R or CD-RW, or do a
slide show.
Twin Laser Pickup for DVD/CD Playback
Using one objective lens with two laser units having different wavelengths optimized for
DVD and CD reproduction, this advanced pickup can also play CD-R/RW discs. The integrated
design of the Twin Laser Pickups DVD unit reduces noise pickup by using an OSIC (optical
electric IC) with built-in I/V amp. This highly sensitive state-of-the-art optical pickup
is made possible by Panasonic's advanced optical device technology.
